After 46 years of service with 'Lysaght' I have decided it's time for me to retire. When I joined this company it was called John Lysaght (Aust) Ltd and had its Queensland headquarters in Ann Street in the heart of the Brisbane CBD. Trams still ran along Queen Street and Australia had only just switched to decimal currency and metric measure.
About that time also this company was excited to be launching a new product called CUSTOM ORBŪ. This was quite an innovative departure from the old practice of selling "corrugated iron" in standard length sheets in one ton packs via distributor stockists.
There's been such a lot of water under the bridge... or should I say - steel through the mill, since then. I have seen the company expand and mature and go through the agony of several name changes along the way. However I'm delighted to say that the 'Lysaght' component of the name has survived through all these iterations and has prevailed right up to present time. These days it is BlueScope Lysaght.
The Lysaght name has always stood for quality, industry knowledge, market leadership and reliability. Today there are many other manufacturers who also occupy this market space but my experience, especially over recent years, is that when the 'chips are down' and people need help and guidance they still like to seek out advice from the manufacturer that has been in this industry since the very beginning. I'm proud to have played my small part in that both in my earlier career with this company when I managed regional centres in North Queensland and more recently in my current role as a consultant for architectural and design services.
It's been quite a ride and I'm grateful for the many friendships and associations I have formed with people in the industry over the years. I have particularly enjoyed my time in recent years working with architects and designers. It has been a good experience to be on the cutting edge with professional people who are always seeking new approaches and 'pushing the envelope' of product application and performance.

~ Editor (Barry Dwyer) MEET RAY KNIGHT
In recognition of the importance of the role of providing technical support to the architectural fraternity in particular, Ray Knight will now be taking over my old role, albeit in a slightly re-structured way. Ray is a Business Development Manager for BlueScope Lysaght in Queensland and is based at Archerfield in Brisbane. However he will have a roving commission across the State with a focus on gaining specifications for our products by working closely with architects and designers to assist them with their design aims and helping them to solve the types of practical application issues that inevitably arise from time to time.
Ray's background covers nearly 20 years in the steel building products industry in which time he worked for a number of steel building product manufacturers as well as an Industrial Shed/Garage Builder where he was manager for seven years. Ray has a Bachelor Degree in Business Accounting. He is also experienced in designing structures using AutoCAD. He joined the BlueScope Lysaght organisation in 2008 and since then has filled a variety of roles.
Notably he worked as an estimator and purlin take-off specialist, which brought him into contact with engineers and other people in the industry, such as steel fabricators. Over this time he has continued to hone his problem solving techniques. Ray enjoys the challenge of finding solutions for our products in all sorts of applications and applies his experience and analytical approach to the task. You will find that he is keen to work with you on your future projects to provide reliable advice on the use of our products.
